Description
The Rust en Vrede Estate blend is the emblematic wine of Rust en Vrede and has been selected four times by Wine Spectator as one of the top 100 wines in the World. This wine is uniquely produced and blended in proportion to the vineyard’s plantings (22 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 7 hectares of Syrah and 1 hectare of Merlot) making it the most honest reflection of their terroir and shows the Rust en Vrede signature style.
The 2019 vintage is made up of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Syrah and 9% Merlot. Distinctive aromas of crème de cassis, Black Forest gateaux and sandalwood give way to subtle vanilla and nutmeg spice. Chalky, fine grained tannins reveal the structure of the blend and provide a rounded mouth feel. Flavours of black cherry and toast are balanced by well-integrated acidity. Restrained on the palate, showing some potential for aging, with a soft, savoury finish.
